Day 22: The Cult - Electric

Yes, Yes, Yes. I LOVE this album. In fact, probably one of my all-time favorites. To me it is an example of a classic rock album. All of the songs are awesome, in your face rock songs. Many people don't know, however, that this album was actually recorded twice. The album was originally recorded and named "Peace". The band was unhappy with the sound of the album, fired the producer, and scrapped the album. For Electric they hired Rick Rubin to produce and re-recorded all of the tracks. Most of the songs from "Peace" made it on to Electric, others were added, and a couple the tracks from Peace, Zap City for example, were later released as B-sides to singles from Electric. If you can find a copy of Peace, hard but not impossible, it is definitely worth getting. I like it almost as much as Electric, especially the 1st version of "Peace Dog".

Unfortunately The Cult has been more miss than hit with their albums. Electric and Sonic Temple are pretty much the only bright spots of their career.

5/5 for making pretty much a perfect rock classic
