#1022 - Radiohead - In Rainbows

I love Radiohead for the most part, but as I have said before, they are a band that most people either love or hate. They are not a band that you just listen to casually. Now I say that I love them for the most part because I love their older albums, but I haven't kept current with their newer ones. Their first three albums are masterpieces, but my interest in them kind of waned around the album "Amnesiac". By the time this album came out in 2007 I didn't listen to it. It is really too bad that I didn't. It is really good, and has rekindled my interest in the band. It is going to take a couple more listens to really get into, but it's going to be worth it.

#96 The Byrds - Younger Than Yesterday

Another late 60's psychedelic rock band/album. It wasn't really much different than the other that I have listen to. Nothing about it really stood out but it wasn't terrible either, like I kind of expected it to.

This was a pretty good easy listening album. Mellow with uplifting lyrics it was very enjoyable to listen to.

#506 Kate Bush - The Dreaming

Kate Bush has attained a decent amount of success during her career. I have never listened to her before now, but I did know that she is kind of know for being a bit odd in both her music and her performances. I definitely thought that listening to this album. It wasn't terrible, even though it is not anything I would ever listen to, it just had some strange elements. to it. not my cup of tea.

#586 Anthrax - Among the Living

Anthrax is another band, if I'm not mistaken, that I my friend Bruce listened to while we were growing up. At the time I didn't really like metal so I never listened to them. I did start to listen to Metallica a few years later but by then I had forgotten about Anthrax. Musically this album was very similar to a Metallica album, but lyrically it was weaker, and I don't like the lead singer's voice that much. The album was good enough for a listen though, especially if you crank it up.

#388 The Clash - The Clash

One of, if not the most famous punk bands to come out of England in the 70's, The Clash enjoyed about a decade of success. Musically this album , their debut, was a typical punk albums, short songs full of fighting against the man. If you like punk it is probably a great album, for me it was good but sounded about the same as most other punk albums.

#820 Fugees - The Score

Part R&B, part Rap this album was really pretty good. The songs were done well and I like that most all included singing and rapping. It doesn't hurt to have Lauren Hill in your band, whose voice is pretty amazing. To bad they only made two albums before disbanding.

"Ready or Not"

The album also contains a cover of one of my all time favorite songs, Killing Me Softly. It was o.k. but I like this version better:

Al B. Sure "Killing Me Softly"

#258 Randy Newman - Sail Away

Most people will know of Randy Newman, I think, due to the success he has had writing and recording songs for movies. Here is a list of some of the soundtracks that he has done so far:

The Natural, Parenthood, Maverick, Toy Story 1 - 4, James and the Giant Peach, Michael, Bug's Life, Meet the Parents, Monsters Inc, Sea biscuit, Meet the Fockers, Cars, Leatherheads, Monsters University, Cars 3 and others.

That body of work has seen him nominated for 20 Oscars, of which he won twice, and 15 Grammys, of which he won 6. That is super impressive in itself. Then when you add on the fact that he has record 11 albums and had numerous hits songs I think it is safe to say that he has had a pretty amazing career.

Sail Away is a pretty decent album. The songs were catchy and enjoyable to listen to. Worth a listen.

#228 Serge Gainsbourg - Histoire De Melody Nelson

I haven't really liked any of the late 60's early 70's albums so far that are in the genre that I would call "hippie" music, and that are in English, so I definitely didn't care for one that was in French.

#643 Bonnie Raitt - Nick of Time

A hugely popular album that won her 3 Grammy awards, but it's just not for me. Two-thirds of it was just too slow and boring, and not being a country fan to start with, it was hard for me to get on board with it.

#716 Morrissey - Your Arsenal

With the first Morrissey I listened to a few months ago I added all of his albums, and Smiths albums, to my Apple Music library. I haven't listened to any of them yet, however, since I wanted to listen to them as they came up on the list. Well this is the 3rd Morrissey album, with one more to go, and once again I am very pleasantly surprised. The lyrics are just so interesting but yet kind of out there, and the music is really great. Once again I recommend you take a listen, in fact just listen to it all.

#747 Rage Against the Machine - Rage Against the Machine

Rage is one of my favorite rock bands. Huge, hard hitting songs, politically charged lyrics and one, if not the best guitarist in the world in Tom Morello. There albums are ideal for just blasting and getting pumped up. I would love it if the band ever reunited and released a new album.

#60 13th Floor Elevators - the Psychedelic Sounds of the 13th Floor Elevators

A psychedelic rock band out of Austin Texas, they were only around from 1964 to 69. I didn't really care for the album. The singer isn't that good and it was too "psychedelic" for me I guess.

#842 Daft Punk - Homework

Daft Punk have been around since 1993, but have only released 4 albums during that time. I don't necessarily believe that an artist has to pump out an album every year to be relevant but fans definitely like to see an new album more often than about every 5 or so years. Especially in today's music environment, when you obtain popularity, to stay on top of it you have to be somewhat prolific in your production. With in the next couple years I predict that artists will move away from producing full albums and focus on singles, releasing them more frequently to stay in the public eye and on top of the streaming charts.

As for the album it was pretty good, for an electronic album, and scored the band their first huge hit.

#991 Ozomatli - Street Signs

Ozomatli is a Latin Funk Band from Los Angeles. This album was really good. The songs ranged in music styles and had a mixture of English and Spanish lyrics. Some were more along the line of R&B and others including rap. I really liked it, and so did a lot of other people, it won them a Grammy.

#510 Prince - 1999

The last Prince album to review is the first Prince album I owned. A prolific artist, Prince had already released four albums prior to this one, at the age of 24. Even though he was already experiencing some success and starting to get noticed, 1999 really put him on the path to stardom. Released as a double album, and clocking in at 70 minutes, it is solid from start to finish. The Hits 1999 and Little Red Corvette would be his first two commercial hits with Little Red Corvette reaching number 6 on the Billboard charts. Another important feature of the album is, while not official, his band The Revolution, it the back up band on the album and the subsequent tour, leading to their involvement with Purple Rain, the biggest album of his career.

BTW prior to his death Prince wouldn't allow any videos to be uploaded to YouTube. Since his death his family has created an official YouTube channel for his videos it you want to check it out.

#672 Jane's Addiction - Ritual De Lo Habitual

Jane's Addiction was a pretty good 90's Alt-Rock band. They released 4 albums during their time together but none more successful than this one. Really known for lead singer Perry Farrell's unique voice and lead guitarist Dave Navarro, who is a pretty dang good player, the band broke up after this album to later reform and record 2 more albums and then break up for good in 2012

#264 The Eagles - Eagles

Apart from KISS, The Eagles are my favorite classic band. I realized after listening to this album, however, that I love them in a greatest hits kind of way. Which is o.k. because the band has a lot of great hits. This album, their first contains 3 of them. The rest of the songs were mediocre at best.

#352 ABBA - Arrival

ABBA was beyond popular when I was young. I remember my parents buying their albums and played them a lot, and if I am to be honest they are pretty good. The Band, over the course of their 10 year career recorded 8 albums before disbanding in 1982. It is estimated that the band has sold any where between 150 - 500 million albums and have been offered ridiculous amounts of money to reform and perform again, which they have turned down every time.

Overall the album was was some really good disco pop. Really fun and well worth the listen.

#1052 Hot Chip - In Our Heads

This band reminds me a lot of the currently popular band Phoenix, out of France. The Music style and even the singers voice are very similar. So considering I really like phoenix, I really liked this album too. It's simplistic, catchy pop music at it's finest.

 Great album cover too.

#658 R.E.M - Green

Awhile back I  mentioned, after listening to the R.E.M. album Document that my first exposure to the band was this album. Green is a great album. It peaked at #12 on the US charts and started a very impressive run of albums for the band. It spawned 2 songs that reached #1 and a 10 year period where R.E.M. was one of the biggest bands in the world. The best part about the band? The lyrics are totally quirky and catchy, and if you listen closely most of the time are random phrases strung together that don't really make sense. Oh well. It works.

#605 Talk Talk - The Colour of Spring

So Talk Talk is most famous for this song:

"It's My Life"

It is on the album released prior to this one and definitely put the band on the 80's pop music scene. This album is a pretty decent follow up. The songs were about what I expected from pretty much a one hit wonder 80's band. The one quirky thing about the band is the lead singers voice. It's a bit odd.

#887 Flaming Lips - The Soft Bulletin

So it's been a couple days between listening to the album and writing about it and the most telling thing about it is that I really can't remember anything about it. There have been other albums that I have been delayed writing about and I usually remember the style of music or a couple stand out songs or something but this one left zero impressions.

#846 Mariah Carey - Butterfly

Even though I was alone in my car when I started to listen to this album I was embarrassed that I was listening to it. I got about half way through the first song and had to turn it off, not because she is a terrible singer, she isn't and her album sales are proof of that, it was because it's not even close to my style of music, and I could literally feel all of my testosterone drying up while it was on and I was afraid that I would grow ovaries if I kept it on.

#163 Scott Walker - Scott 4

On his fifth album, Scott Walker decided to write all of the songs himself, instead of with others. Not having listened to the other albums, I don't have a reference point but I don't think it was a good idea.
This album was not good. The themes were kind of weird and the lyrics were just terrible. Avoid this one.

#527 The Police - Synchronicity

I know that The Police were a pretty huge band back in the day, and that a lot of people like their music. Sting has definitely made a career of his success with the band, but I have never liked either the band or the solo works.

During their time together they put out 5 albums and with each one album had a couple songs that were huge and have become classic rock staples. Synchronicity was their last album as a band and arguably their most successful. Listening to the album for the first time, I have to say that the first half of the album is crap, I mean really bad, and is really only saved by 4 of the 11 songs. If you are new to the band save yourself the trouble and just get a greatest hits album and cut out all the crap.

#466 Steve Winwood - Arc of a Diver

Two Stevens in a row, and another Steve who has had a pretty successful solo career and was in a couple equally successful bands, Traffic and Blind Faith. This Steve I was familiar with but the album was not as good as yesterdays. It really only had one good song on it, which happened to be the hit single. Overall I wouldn't bother listening to it and would hope that, even though he has some pretty big hit singles, he could string together a good whole album.

#195 Stephen Stills - Stephen Stills

So this album was pretty good. From the album cover I expected it to be a folk album but it was more than that and better than I expected. Steven Stills is another one of those artist that has had a pretty long career and played in two very successful bands, Buffalo Springfield and Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young. I didn't connect the name at the time of listening but it makes sense now. The album was worth the listen.

#74 The Monks - Black Monk Time

The Monks, an American band formed by G.I.'s stationed in Germany in the 60's were a one and done band. Listening to the album I definitely noticed some military themes in the songs and a couple songs actually decried the senselessness of war and the treatment of soldiers after they return home. The album was kind of strange at times but not terrible.
