#970 Radiohead - Hail to the Thief

This is one of the later Radiohead albums that I did get when it came out. I'm not exactly sure why I did. I didn't get buy Kid A or Amnesiac when they came out. If I remember correctly I got it because I saw it used at a record store in downtown Victoria B.C. Like their albums from Kid A on I haven't really been into the band. When I do listen to the album I do think they are good albums, I just have lost touch with the band, and I haven't listen to their 2011 or 2016 albums at all.

Interesting thing about this album was that it was stolen and leaked to the internet  10 weeks before it was completed and scheduled to be released. Even so, when the album was finally released it debuted at #1.

"Myxomatosis" - a viral infection in rabbits that causes swelling of mucus membranes and discharge around the eyes.

#723 Sonic Youth - Dirty

The follow-up to "Goo" which I listened to awhile ago and was a fantastic album, this album was more of the same. While it was pretty raw and definitely was very loosely produced it was a lot of fun to listen too.

#230 T Rex - Electric Warrior

This was a much better album that yesterday's. Musically it was so much better, more of a rock vein, which is always a good thing. In fact this album is the first album that is considered Glam Rock, starting a genre that lead to artists like David Bowie, Kiss, Queen and Elton John to name a few.

#91 Moby Grape - Moby Grape

The Band's debut album, it was recorded in '67 and during a time of music that I do not like. Psychedelic Rock is not a genre that I can get into, it is usually too out there. Too strange both musically and lyrically. Too fueled by drug consumption. Just not worth listening to in my opinion.

I do think it is funny that the one guy on the cover is flipping the bird.

#168 The Kinks - Arthur (Or the Decline and Fall of the British Empire)

I just don't like the idea of concept albums. I usually feel like they don't work like expected. This one was recorded as a soundtrack to accompany a T.V. program that was to be produced based on a novel. The funny thing was the album was written and recorded but the program was cancelled and never made. The main issue that I have with concept albums is that they obviously are written to tell a story from start to finish but rarely do the songs turn out well, they always feel forced.

#381 Kraftwerk - Trans-Europe Express

Much better than the last Kraftwerk album. Musically it was much better, and the addition of "singing" was an improvement, even if it was odd. The album was some good 80's electronic pop and actually reminds me of the music on the last couple OMD albums.

#482 Bobby Womack - The Poet

Bobby Womack is not only a pretty prolific musician who had had quite a bit of success for himself he was also a pretty prolific songwriter who wrote some hit songs for other artists. This album was a pretty solid R&B/Funk album, which I am always fond of. He reminded me of artists like Al Green and Marvin Gaye. And he can play some guitar!

#235 The Rolling Stones - Sticky Fingers

Still don't love Mick's voice, but I am trying to look for things that I can like about their music. For this album I noticed that the guitar playing on the albums was really good. I haven't really paid attention to it in the past but I think Keith Richards, according to this album anyways, is a pretty talented musician.

#70 The Byrds - Fifth Dimension

Another Byrds album and it wasn't any worse, but it wasn't any better than the others. Still pretty mellow and not really all that interesting. I really hope this is the last of their albums.

#808 Tricky - Maxinquaye

Tricky is an English Musician who makes electronic music with hip-hop influences who then gets other vocalist to sing the lyrics. I like some of his songs but this is the first full album of his that I have listened too. Overall it was a decent album, and reminded me a little of the type of music that Recoil makes, which I do really like.

#201 The Stooges - Fun House

The first Stooges album, Iggy Pop's original band, and I was pleasantly surprised. Super catchy, and really fun to listen to. I expected the singing to be terrible, since it is Iggy, but it was also pretty good. I just enjoyed the whole thing. Here is hoping there is another one.

One of my favorite Depeche Mode songs is a B-side they released called "Dirt" I never knew until I listened to this album that it is a cover version of a Stooges song from this album.

#1007 The White Stripes - Get Behind Me Satan

I have raved about Jack White before. I think he is one of the most talented, most original, most diverse musicians out there. He can do it all. Whether it is with The White Stripes, or one of his side projects or solo he is makes such good music. This is not one of The White Stripes best albums, that belongs to Elephant, but it is still really good. Blue Orchid is a great song, and there a number of others also. If you haven't experience his music yet, do yourself a favor and check it out.

#40 Bert Jansch - Bert Jansch

So this album is basically a guy singing and an acoustic guitar. It was really slow and kind of boring. In fact I had to stop about 3/4 of the way through, I felt like I had heard everything by that point

#608 The Jesus & Mary Chain - Darklands

Another good album by the band, but not quite as good as their debut which I had listened to earlier. It's some dark mid-80's alt-rock that is really the type of music that I liked to listen to as a teenager, although I never happened to listen to this band before now.

#254 Neil Young - Harvest

Third Neil Young album, and it is another great one. More great song writing and it might have two of his most famous songs. Just really entertaining. I'm really liking his music.

"Heart of Gold"

"Old Man"

"A Man Needs a Maid" -  I included this song because it has some really great, really large orchestral arrangements all to sing about how a man needs some one to cook and clean for him.

#557 Simply Red - Picture Book

I have listened to this album in the past, and while I don't love it, it is pretty good. I like the big band sound that they constructed into the songs, and for an album released in 1985, they did a masterful job of recording it. The sound quality is excellent, and it sounded great on my car stereo. The sound is so full and encompassing I felt like I was at a concert. Excellent job.

"Holding Back the Years" - I can't imagine anyone not liking this song. Just great.

#184 John Lennon - Plastic Ono Band

I was expecting something much different than this for Lennon's first solo album. I was expecting something similar to his music with the Beatles, but it diverted from that completely, and it was really pretty good. I also though that it might be way out there and just weird for the sake of being weird, but it wasn't that either. The songs were well crafted and many of them were quite catchy and enjoyable to listen to. Definitely worth a listen.

#1026 Fleet Foxes - Fleet Foxes

It's been a little bit of a string of not so good albums. Not so good albums, that when I read up on their history were critically acclaimed and, at the time of their release, were consider one of the best albums of the year. The only way that I can explain it is it is like the Oscars. Most of the movies that are up for best picture are movies that were not huge hits, and were loved only by the critics. I can't even count how many times the best picture is loved by critics and when you read reviews and ratings by regular everyday people, it is not well received. I do not understand what people liked in this album, and for an album released in 2008, they did a really good job of making it sound like it is recorded in the 60's

#420 The Only Ones - The Only Ones

Sometimes I am confused by the genre that some of these albums are classified as. These guys are listed as a Punk band, and this album has been called one of the top 50 best punk albums of all time. I feel like I know enough about music to know that this is not punk. Released in 1978, I would say that they are a semi-rock band, and for that matter they are even pretty tame to be classified as rock, maybe more like folk-rock. Anyways, it wasn't that good and it is another example of a lead singer who can't and should not sing.

#174 Van Morrison - Astral Weeks

I did not like this album. It was super slow, and frankly very boring, which is actually quite different than the last Van Morrison album. It was much more pop sounding and had some catchy tunes, but this one lost me from the beginning.

#884 Beth Orton - Central Reservation

Beth Orton is an English artist who mixes folk with some electronic beats/sounds on some of her songs, and I have to say that for the most part it works. Her voice is definitely on point, it has a different quality to it that makes it very unique, and the lyrics were great, although I have since learned that she actually wasn't responsible for any of it other than the second to last song. The only thing bad I would say is that while the album started off strong, with the mix of the two style, the album gets away from that formula and the second half of the album is way more folk oriented and becomes a bit boring.

I really liked these two songs

#247 David Bowie - The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars

I think this is the first Bowie album so far that did not include any instrumental songs, and while I didn't know any of them other than "Ziggy Stardust" I like it for the most part. At times the lyrics were a bit weird, but I expect that from Bowie to a certain extent. He is kind of out there, but that is what makes his music interesting. When you write an album about your alter ego, Ziggy Stardust, who is a bisexual rock star who is a messenger to extra-terrestrials, it's bound to be odd.

"Ziggy Stardust" - one of the things that I have enjoyed is finding and watching the videos. Sometimes all I can find is the official music video, but I like to try and find live performances or other less common videos. I feel that it is a way to keep the artist alive, especially for artists that have passed away.

#31 Booker T & The MGs - Green Onions

A instrumental R&B/Funk band it is named after the founder of the band and their producers car, which was an MG. The album was a combination of original songs plus covers of other people songs minus the singing. It was a pretty decent album, I like R&B/Funk, but like other instrumental albums, it just got old after a few songs. BTW the band has the distinction of being one of the first racially integrated bands, with both black and white members.

"Green Onions" - pretty sure most people have heard this song, although I had no idea what it was called before now

#665 Deee-Lite - World Clique

I actually bought this album when it came out based on their hit single "Groove is in the Heart" thinking that, hoping that, the rest of the album was going to be good. Boy was I wrong. The album is garbage, and actually listening to the single again now, it isn't actually very good either. I am surprised that it is on the list really, they are definitely a one hit wonder. I have spent a lot of money in my life on albums based on one single and then the rest of the album being crap. I'm super happy that we live in the age of streaming where I can pay for Apple Music and listen to any music I want for one low price. It's so low risk now.

#266 The Temptations - All Directions

I didn't like this album as much as I liked the last Temptations I listened to. From what I can remember the last one was more up beat, more fun to listen to, while this one was slower and a little bit of a downer. It does have probably their most famous song, the cover of "Papa was a Rolling Stone", and rumor is that a few of the band member actually argued against recording the song. The also didn't want to record the song "Run Charlie Run" due to the racially charge lyrics.

#199 The Grateful Dead - American Beauty

The first, and the last, Grateful Dead album I listened to was a live album. I didn't really enjoy it all that much. Actually I didn't like it at all. If I remember correctly, it ended up being a bunch of songs that were more jam sessions than structured songs, that ran together and sounded pretty much the same. This album was a better listening experience. I still didn't love it. The musical style isn't what I like but at least the songs structured, defined songs, and that made it more enjoyable to listen to, at least from that view point.

#239 Al Green - Let's Stay Together

This album was so good. So smooth, so soulful. While a little bit dated in style, and not something that I would listen to on a regular basis, but for it's time I can imagine it was used to make a lot of babies :)
