#811 Beck - Odelay

Second album by Beck and it is a good one. Full of great songs it was more of what I expected from a Beck album in comparison to the last one I listened to. Way more up beat and catchy, a lot more fun to listen to, it scored beck a Grammy for best alternative album in 1997.

#865 Bonnie Prince Billy - I See A Darkness

This album was so depressing. The songs kind of plodded along slowly and the lyrics were a real downer. That doesn't mean it was a terrible album, it was just hard to swallow it a large chunk. Even the song names are indicitive of the albums depressing nature, "I See a Darkness", "Another Day Full of Dread", "Today I Was an Evil One" and "Black" to name a few.

BTW Bonnie 'Prince' Billy is the stage name for Will Oldham. Not sure how he came up with the name.

#169 The Rolling Stones - Let It Bleed

For all the Rolling Stones albums I have listened to so far, and there have been a few, this is probably the best one so far. Now, that does not mean I am now a fan. I still don't love Mick's voice, but it was better than I expected and I don't regret listening to it, and for someone that doesn't like the Rolling Stones, that's probably about as good as it's going to get.

#92 Nico - Chelsea Girl

I really liked the string arrangements on the album. Most all of them have an orchestrial feel and sound to them. However, she can not sing. She is terrible. In my opinion I think she is tone deaf. Her notes are way off on almost all of the songs. It's like she wanted to be a singer and everyone was afraid to tell her that she can't sing so they just went with it when she wanted to record an album.

"Somewhere There's a Feather" - a perfect example of how terrible a singer she is.

#713 KD Lang - Ingenue

I was actually hoping this album was going to be much better than it was. After the other album of her's that I listened to, which was much more country than this, I was hoping for more of the same. Unfortunately this got away from her country sound, and was just kind of a mellow, kind of boring album. It does have Constant Craving on it which is the only song of her's that I had ever heard before, and she definitely can sing. Great Voice.

#755 William Orbit - Strange Cargo III

For an electronic album it was actually better than some of the others that I have listened to so far. the main reason is it varied, even if it was ever so slightly, from song to song. It didn't feel like I was listening to one long song. That doesn't mean that I didn't get bored listening to it.

One amazing fact William Orbit is as a musician, music producer, song writter, and remixer, he has sold over 200 million  recordings. That is a crazy.

#544 The Style Council - Cafe Bleu

I'm not really sure what to think about this album. I didn't like it at all, but I don't really have a definitive reason for that. I just didn't connect with it in any way. As for the album, personal opinion aside, it was just kind of an average 80's new wave album, nothing special.

#191 Santana - Abraxas

Santana is a Latin-rock band led by Mexican-American guitarist Carlos Santana. This is the band's second album, and I thought it was really quite good. A number of the songs are instrumental, and for the most part the album really shows off Carlos' guitar playing ability. I knew he was good, but man after listening to this he is really talented.

#440 Michael Jackson - Off the Wall

As I have mentioned before, Michael Jackson and his album Thriller was the first time I felt like I had a conection to music when I listened to it. And as with most artists/bands that I have come to love over the years, I, most of the time, start to like them with an album that isn't their debut, and then I listen to their earlier albums to see what I had been missing. That was the case with Michael Jackson. The first album I listened to was Thriller and then I went back and listened to this album, and while I liked it, it was hard to compare to Thiller, since that album is just so good. The biggest difference with this album compared to his later is the noticable disco element to it, which is understandable considering it was released in 1979.

BTW I thought for sure there would be some Jackson 5 albums coming up, but nope this is the end of Michael Jackson on the list.

#552 Kate Bush - Hounds of Love

I can't remember if their has been a previous Kate Bush album or not. If there has been that tells me that it didn't leave much of an inpression. I was surprised that I had actually heard one of these somgs before, I didn't think I had ever heard any of her music previously, and I'm not quite sure where I would have heard it. Regardless, I thought the album was pretty good actually. Kinda mellow, and a little bit weird but still pretty enjoyable to listen to, and the one song I had heard, one of her most famous, is really quite good.

#829 Stereolab - Emperor Tomato Ketchup

Stereolab is a french art-pop band that has released quite a few albums, with this one being their most successful. I didn't really like it all that much. Musically it was too experimental for my tastes, and the singing, once again, was in another language, which, for me, always looses me.

#710 Arrested Development - 3 Years, 5 Months and 2 Days in the Life of Arrested Development

Released in 1992 it is the band's debut album, with the title being how long it took them to get a record contract. Arrested Development is a hip hop band from Atlanta, who had some decent success with this album but then never really had any other succes with any of their follow up albums. The are pretty much the definition of a one-hit wonder. After listening to the album, but not having listened to any others, I think that this album is just marginally good, with really only one really good song on it, and I would bet that the album hasn't stood the test of time very well.

#897 Skunk Anasie - Post Orgasmic Chill

I was mixed on this album. I really liked the music, it was a mix of alt-rock/hard rock, and was really quite catchy. I hated the vocals. They are way to high pitched, and at times out-of-tune. Just ruined the whole album for me. Really made it quite unlistenable.

#471 The Dead Kennedys - Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables

A late 70's - mid-80's punk band out of San Francisco, I did not like this album. I have liked some punk albums on the list so far, but this one was just not good, and it was mostly due to the singer's voice - terrible.

#894 Red Hot Chili Peppers - Californication

I love the Chili Peppers, but only their hits. They haven't ever put out an album that I like from start to finish. This album is no exception. It has a number of great songs on it, but I don't like them all. It does have the probably the most songs of theirs that I like on a single album, and has probably my second favorite song of their's, "Otherside",  after my favorite - "Under the Bridge"

#644 Coldcut - What's The Noise?

#315 Neil Young - On The Beach

#521 Malcolm McLaren - Duck Rock

This album was so odd and diverse it was good. The music styles vary from African, Carribean, middle-eastern to hip-hop. McLaren was the manager of the bands "New York Dolls" and "Sex Pistols" and then in the early 80's decided to make some of his own music, with "Duck Rock" being his first album.

#267 Todd Rundgren - Something/Anything?

One of the things I was able to learn about Todd Rundgren, since I had never heard of him before now, is that he was one of the first musicians, to start to incorporate an interactive experience at his concerts. He would later on in his career be one of the first to use music videos and the internet to promote his music. I ended up liking this album. He is a pretty good musician and has a really good voice.

#229 Sly & The Family Stone - There's a Riot Goin' On

This is more what I was expecting from this band. The first album of their's that I listened to I felt was too "disco" while this one is more funk/soul oriented. The songs were much better and since I like that genre of music more I was able to enjoy this album more. I can imagine going to one of their concerts and it being a huge production and a lot of fun to see.

#14 Thelonious Monk - Brilliant Corners

For a jazz album this was pretty good. Monk is a pianist and composer who likes to improvise when composing and recording his songs. The title track for this album is regarded as one of his most difficult songs and it took the band 25 takes and over 4 hours to get it right.

#1023 The Good, The Bad & The Queen - The Good, The Bad & The Queen

This album reminds me of the Flaming Lips album from a couple days ago and both of remind me of the band "The Gorillaz". Spoiler alert, the singer for this band is David Albarn, the mastermind and singer for the Gorillaz, and also the band Blur. This band however is a supergroup made up of Albarn, a member of the Clash and the Verve. I had never heard of this album and to be honest is it so similar to Gorillaz, that it might as well be a Gorillaz album. I feel the same about this one as I do most Gorillaz albums. A couple good songs, but nothing amazing.

New Music: Blue October - Daylight

Blue October just dropped their new video for the song Daylight - so you know I gotta share

"I wear a mask in the spotlight
Backstage there's a room so dark
I'm not even going in there
I'm afraid it would tear us apart
There's a sun when the dawn breaks
There's a light that will lead you home
When the truth is contagious
This is all we need to know"

Mother Mother has a new album "Dance and Cry" out today. I've been digging this band for awhile now.

#1017 Arcade Fire - Neon Bible

As I have previously mentioned I really like this band. The have a number of songs spread out over their albums that I consider to be very very good. Their albums as a whole though take some getting use to. They are very well crafted but are albums that you kind of have to be in the mood for to listen to straight through. Regardless, Arcade Fire is a great band and their albums are worth checking out.
