Tubular bells is mostly an instrumental album (some lyrics thrown in here and there) with a lot of, you guessed it, bells. Originally when the album came out in '73, on vinyl, there was side A - tubular Bells part 1, and side B - Tubular bells part 2, with each track running about 25 minutes. Throughout the instrumentals Oldfield changes the instrumentation around adding and removing different ones as the song progresses.
Overall I wasn't really that impressed. Parts of the songs didn't really flow all that well, and at other times it sounded just kinda like noise. At best this is an album that I might put on in the background while doing other things, but I could think of lots of better albums to listen to instead.
1/5 for making music by playing with your bells
Tomorrow: Cypress Hill - Cypress Hill
